Mini-Grants
General Description
Mini-Grants are awarded in amounts of less than $1,000. The Mini-Grant program is designed for small projects for which completion of the regular Grant Application Form may be impractical.
Purpose and Qualification
The purpose of a Mini-Grant should be to promote: historical interest; the preservation of historic memorabilia and items of historical significance; genealogical activities; the study and understanding of American history, heritage, institutions or traditions; or the ideals of patriotism, democracy and liberty.
Mini-Grant projects may:
- Promote historical interest and the preservation, cataloguing and display of historic memorabilia and items of historical significance;
- Promote the support and expansion of local museums and the programs sponsored by them-including the support of historic pageants or re-enactments;
- Promote ideals of patriotism, democratic ideals (such as traveling programs, speakers, essay or speaking contests relating to such areas);
- Promote the study and recording of genealogical data and the expansion of genealogical libraries;
- Support for citizen naturalization programs;
- Provide unique educational opportunities not offered in existing programs.
The foregoing is not intended to be an exhaustive list of activities which may be supported by a Mini-Grant.
A Mini-Grant must relate to the purposes of the NSDAR, the Chapter and the Foundation.
Mini-Grants must have the potential to make a genuine, effective contribution to the advancement of American patriotism, education, historic preservation or genealogical activities.
The Foundation is NOT accepting applications for student scholarships.
Amount
The amount of any single Mini-Grant may not exceed $1,000.
Application Schedule
Applications must be received on or before January 5, March 5, May 5, July 5, September 5, or November 5. Applications will be considered by the Board of Directors of the Foundation at its regular (normally bi-monthly) meetings.
Application Form
Application for a Mini-Grant is made in the form of an original letter, with 11 copies, containing a description and as much detail regarding the project as is available.
Application Instructions
The letter applying for a Mini-Grant should specifically include the following items:
- The name of the organization making the application for the grant.
- The name, address and telephone number of the project director or other responsible individual to whom telephone calls or correspondence should be directed.
- The amount of the request.
- A specific description of the purpose for which the Mini-Grant funds will be used.
- A description of other income and expenses for the project not covered by the Mini-Grant, if any.
- Other information deemed appropriate by the applicant.
- Include 11 copies of the letter as part of the application.
